Michał Pętlicki was born in Warsaw, Poland. He did his PhD at the Institute of Geophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences, modelling surface mass balance and evolution of a small land-terminating High Arctic glacier.

Then his research was focused on calving of tidewater glaciers, with a particular interest in application of terrestrial laser scanning method to quantify calving activity. He has been working in the Arctic, Antarctic and Andes.

Michał joined CECs in 2017 with his main aim to investigate calving of the Southern Patagonian Icefield outlet glaciers.
