Epithelial Functional Genomics

Epithelial transport and metabolism studies at CECs range from efforts to understand the molecular mechanisms regulating ion channels involved in epithelial transport, to the study of their function in situ through the use of genetically-modified mice. Specifically we are investigating the mechanisms of proton gating in chloride and potassium channels and its role in renal and intestinal epithelia. Also we are interested in understand the pathophysiology of cystic fibrosis intestinal abnormalities. Using murine models of the disease we are studying the impact of possible modifier genes on the severity of the phenotype.
