CECs, Centro de Estudios Científicos (Center for Scientific Studies) is a private, non-profit corporation, devoted to the development, promotion and diffusion of scientific research. CECs was founded in 1984 as the Center for Scientific Studies of Santiago and has since been directed by physicist Claudio Bunster.

Born in November 5,1945. Married with Pilar Capdevila, has two sons and one daughter.


Mr. Matte holds a Civil Engineering degree at the University of Chile and an MBA degree at the University of Chicago.


Throughout his career he has been actively involved in a number of public and private organizations. His main engagement for more than 30 years has been with Empresas CMPC, one of the largest forest products company in Latin America. He has been it’s CEO and actually is it’s Chairman of the Board.


Mr. Matte is also involved with the financial sector (Banco Bice), electricity sector (Colbún), construction materials industry (Volcan) and telecoms sector (Entel).


He is Chairman of the Board of Centro de Estudios Públicos (CEP) a highly prestigious think tank.
