Roman Konoplya defended his Ph.D. dissertation, devoted to proper oscillations of black holes (the so-called quasinormal modes), in 2004 (VNIIMS, Moscow). He worked as postdoctoral researcher in Sao Paulo University (2004-2007) and in Kyoto University (2007-2009). Currently, he is researcher at Tubingen University and associate researcher at CECS. His scientific interests are concentrated around black hole physics in the context of astrophysics, higher dimensional gravity and string theory. In particular, his recent activity is aimed at various classical and quantum radiative processes around black holes such as quasi-normal ringing, wave scattering, gravitational and thermodynamic stability and Hawking radiation, with a special emphasis to the interpretation of these phenomena within the renowned gauge/gravity correspondence.
