The Centro de Estudios Científicos, CECS invites applications for the position of Research Unit Manager of the CECS mouse facility.
The person appointed will have qualifications/experience in managing a SPF/Barrier transgenic facility. CECS is located in Valdivia, Chile. This modern Institute is an interdisciplinary research center interested in biology, theoretical physics and glaciology.

The CECS mouse facility was designed in line with international standards and current best practice in laboratory animal care and welfare as well as the protection of personnel. The CECS facility operates on an animal health barrier, the post holder would be required to manage and follow barrier practices at all times. Research facilities established at the facility include laboratories for microinjection and cell culture and a behavioral suite.

The purpose of the facility is;
To allow CECS Investigators to import, breed and maintain specific pathogen free (SPF)  mice including transgenic strains created in other institutions and by commercial suppliers
To facilitate investigators who wish to create their own transgenic strains To support the development of in vivo research.

Desirable experience includes:

A minimum of 3 years experience in a Laboratory / Laboratory Animal position.

Management experience of mouse facilities (preferably barrier facilities).

Appropriate degree in relevant area.

Excellent communication, interpersonal and people management skills required for a multi-user environment.
Ability to interact with researchers at all levels in order to achieve the CECS scientific mission.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Experience in managing staff required for the operation of the facility.
Due to the nature of the position attendance is required outside of normal working hours.
Salary will be made commensurate with qualifications and experience.
