History of this Pendulum

In principle, manufacturing a pendulum is no easy task. However, if the idea is to have a permanent exhibition, such as the one viewed here, it is necessary to have energy recovery and stabilization systems in place which introduce serious technical difficulties.

In January 2007, a 12 meter long Foucault pendulum was installed in the CECS hall without the Charron Ring, but with optical sensors and energy recovery systems different to the present ones. Since this configuration proved to be unstable, it was replaced by the present pendulum and remained in the CECS hall until April 15, 2011 when it was moved to its present location on the Science Coastal Road.
