10-02-2010

The International Glaciological Conference VICC 2010 "Ice and Climate Change: A view from the South" was held at the facilities of Centro de Estudios Cientificos between 1 and 3 February 2010. The objective of the Conference was to present new results and discuss ongoing cryospheric and climate changes in the Southern Hemisphere, where we organised a session upon Antarctica specially focused on the Peninsula changes. the conference was dedicated to the memory of Dr. Jens Wendt, great fellow died on April 2009 during a geophysical airborne survey on Southern Chile.

In the meeting, the ongoing research within the framework of the Ring project was presented in the modality of oral presentations and a poster. Dr. Anja Wendt presented the results upon the dynamical changes of the glacier in response to Wordie major collapse and Jorge Quintana reviewed the climatological aspects of the Peninsula in association to the glacier behaviour. Also Claudio Bravo came with a poster upon the technical and logistics aspects of the expeditions to the glacier in years 2007, 2008 and 2009.
